Hear our former Country Director speak about the impact of Hurricane Irma

Hurricane Irma is currently making its way towards Haiti, and is expected to affect the country within the next 24 hours.

Our Ambassador, George Hook, spoke to our former Country Director, John Moore, on the ‘High Noon’ show on Newstalk FM this afternoon, discussing the potential impact of the hurricane.

Irma is following a path further north than initially forecast, meaning that its force in Haiti may be less powerful than first predicted.  A hurricane watch remains in place in north Haiti, with a tropical storm warning set for the southern border with the Dominican Republic across to Port au Prince.

John explained that, although the force of the winds may not be as damaging as first thought, Haiti remains at high risk of storm surges, mudslides and flooding, as the storm could bring huge amounts of rainfall with it.
