The Global Citizen Award (GCA) recognises the contribution made by overseas volunteers and raises awareness of global issues in Ireland.
Haven volunteers make an incredible contribution to the lives of people in Haiti, and we would encourage all of you – old and new – to consider applying for this exciting initiative.
About the Award
If you are a volunteer over the age of eighteen with a minimum of three weeks of overseas volunteer experience, you are eligible to apply for the award: this gives you the chance to share your volunteering stories and memories, and to educate others on the global development issues you encountered in Haiti. Your achievements could then be celebrated at a National Award Ceremony.
Three award categories – bronze, silver and gold – are open to entry. These involve attending pre-departure training and workshops, completing your overseas experience, writing blogs, undertaking action projects and more, depending on the category you choose to apply for.
Your overseas experience can also be built up over time, meaning that you are not restricted by when your volunteering has taken place.
Registering for the Award
Registering for the GCA is easy: all you have to do is visit the GCA website, choose your award category, and fill in the registration form.
From there, once you complete your award actions and report, the next step is to collect your award!
The GCA gives you a great opportunity to gain even more from your time in Haiti, to develop new and valuable skills, and to inspire others to get involved.
