Top Fundraising Tips for Volunteers

Every year, our volunteers make a massive difference to Haven by helping us raise funds to support our projects on the ground in Haiti.

If you’re planning a fundraising event of your own, we’ll be here to support you every step of the way. Here are some quick guidelines to get you started!

Do what you know

Organise an event that you already know a lot about and enjoy: this will make it easier to plan, and the chances are that you will already know a group of people interested in the event.  If you enjoy fitness and are a member of a fitness group or gym, why not organise a sponsored fitness class?  If you have a friendly group of colleagues at work, why not think about getting them involved in some of these office fundraising ideas?

Use your circle of family and friends wisely

As your event draws close, there will be times when you need all hands on deck.  Don’t be afraid to ask for help from your family and friends for the big things and the small: from inviting your DJ friend to spin the tunes at your event to asking your brother to sell raffle tickets on the night, anything they can do will make a big difference to you.  Just make sure you thank them afterwards!

Take your time planning it

No matter if the event you’re organising is big or small, take your time.  Go through all the details, and have a strong plan in place from the beginning so that everything goes smoothly.  Make sure you have crossed your ‘t’s and dotted your ‘i’s.

Promote! Promote! Promote!

Get the word out there about your event: contact local newspapers, radio stations, local social media pages and newsletters.  Get in touch with the Haven team so that we can share it through our channels too.  If you’re taking part in our Volunteer Programme, people will be interested to learn that you are going to Haiti, so let them know!

When in doubt, call the Haven team.
